As part of their review into how best to enhance career progression for Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) individuals, the Department of Business Innovation and Skills launched a call for evidence on 10th May which is due to close on 22nd August.
The review has a number of aims including to identify potential obstacles BME groups can face in employment. It invites views from individuals, employers, representatives bodies, academics, researchers, think tanks and any other organisation or person interested in this area.
A recent survey carried out by Harvey Nash’s Engage network demonstrated the need to highlight the benefits of companies accessing the widest pool of talent available, with 52% of respondents concluding that CEOs and executives do not see the business benefits of a diverse board on the bottom line. Whilst the review will aim to demonstrate the business case for more diversity, it will also identify barriers and the impact of such barriers that are currently being faced by BME individuals.
Following the conclusion of the call for evidence, Baroness McGregor-Smith will conduct an independent review to be published later this year.
