An urgent question was directed at the Chancellor at 12.30pm today to provide better financial support for the self-employed.
This was the Government’s response:
“The Government is working urgently to address this problem… to the self-employed the message is that help is coming but the policy and its delivery will be complex.”
The Government said today that they do not “want to rush a scheme that will pose more questions than it will answer”.
However, members of the House urged the Government to provide assurance as soon as possible. MPs agreed that this is complex but the self-employed need answers now the as majority have had their income wiped out over-night. There were cross party calls for an urgent solution as soon as possible.
