Compliance with the National Minimum Wage is a legal obligation, make sure you are in the know and don’t fall foul of the law.
From 1 October 2016 the NMW will be as follows:
- £6.95 per hour for 21 – 24 year olds;
- £5.55 per hour for 18 – 20 year olds;
- £4.00 per hour for workers under the age of 18;
- £3.40 per hour for apprentices under 19, or those over 19 in their first year of training.
For over 25 year olds the National Living Wage continues to apply, requiring a minimum rate of pay of £7.20 an hour.
Failure to comply can land hefty fines, reputational damage and even criminal prosecutions, getting it right is crucial.
