Claims brought in the employment tribunal must be brought within a specified time limit (set out below), which is calculated by excluding the date of the event.
Although the employment tribunal may extend time in some circumstances, this is not common and will depend upon the facts of each case.
ACAS Early Conciliation
Since 6 May 2014, prospective claimants have not been allowed to bring claims in an employment tribunal unless (subject to a few minor exceptions) they have first submitted an ACAS early conciliation form to ACAS and received an ACAS early conciliation certificate.
