The Equality Act 2010 (Gender Pay Gap Information) Regulations 2016 (“the Regulations”) came into force on 6 April 2017 with the requirement for certain organisations to publish their gender pay gap on or before 4 April 2018.
“Gender pay gap” (GPG) refers to the difference between the mean and median hourly rates of pay between men and women. According to the ONS in October 2017, the GPG for full time employees stood at 9.1%. The Government aim to eliminate the GPG by 2069.
It is important to remember that GPG is NOT the same as equal pay, it does not measure the difference between what men and women are paid for the same or equivalent work and does not consider whether employees are working full or part-time.
