Checklist to follow when employing people with a criminal record. It is recommended that your review this checklist in conjunction with the Factsheet on Employing People with Criminal Records.

  1. Is the position exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA)? If so, have you informed applicants of this in advance and that employment will be subject to either a standard or enhanced disclosure of criminal records, which includes any spent convictions?
  2. Are you registered with the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) (formerly the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB)) to enable you to obtain a standard or enhanced disclosure?
