Guide to best practice when involving volunteers.

Many charities and other organisations depend heavily on the time and skill of volunteers.  Unlike employees, volunteers do not benefit from the protection awarded under a contract of employment and so act as a virtually free and flexible source of manpower. 

There is currently no legal definition of a voluntary worker, nor any legislation specifically covering volunteers.
