Parental bereavement leave factsheet sets out the eligibility, notification periods, contract, pay and right to return to work for employees on parental bereavement leave.
Employees have a statutory right to take time off work following the death of a child or a stillbirth this is known as Parental Bereavement Leave (PBL).
PBL applies to deaths, or stillbirths after 24 weeks, that occur on or after 6 April 2020 and can be exercised by the child’s parent and their partner.
Where more than one child has died or been stillborn, the bereaved parent is entitled to separate periods of PBL and separate statutory parental bereavement pay (SPBP) in respect of each child.
