The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has meant that, for many people, the boundary between work and home life has become blurred. A vast amount of people were suddenly required to work from home which meant for many, homes became offices and this has resulted in many struggling to disconnect from work outside of their working hours. 

On Tuesday 10 May, Prince Charles delivered the Queen’s Speech, outlining the Government’s aims and priorities for the parliamentary year ahead. This year, the speech contained a large focus on post covid and post Brexit economic stability, and proposals to tackling the rising cost of living.

As the challenges of the 21st century become even tougher, the pressure placed on employers continues to mount. It is no wonder that in this environment, senior organisational leaders are prioritising talent acquisition, talent engagement and talent retention.  

As of 11 April 2022, the Global Business Mobility (GBM) routes have now replaced the Intra-Company Transfer (ICT) routes. Under the GBM routes, there are five main categories.

Since the majority of the Covid-19 restrictions ended on 24 February 2022 and free lateral flow tests ended for many on 1 April 2022, the UK Government has recently released guidance in relation to managing Covid-19 in the workplace. This guidance was released, and came into force, on 1 April 2022. The guidance applies to England only.  

The UK ferry operator P&O Ferries announced their decision on Thursday 17 March 2022 to cut 800 jobs with immediate effect. It was reported that workers were informed via a video message that “the company has made the decision that its vessels going forward will be primarily crewed by a third party crew provider” and that it was their “final day of employment”.

The new Global Business Mobility (GBM) routes are launching on Monday, 11 April 2022, replacing the existing Intra-Company Transfer (ICT) routes, with the GBM: Senior/Specialist Worker route replacing the ICT route and the GBM: Graduate Trainee route replacing the Intra-Company Graduate Trainee route.    

It’s April and that means increases to the financial thresholds for various employment law calculations – including a week’s pay for statutory redundancy payments.

For organisations that transfer personal data from the UK to other jurisdictions, new data sharing agreements are now in force.
