Setting up a Business in the UK: The Representative of an Overseas Business Visa

The Representative of an Overseas Business visa enables a representative of a company based outside of the UK to live and work in the UK in order to set up a UK branch or wholly owned subsidiary.

If the representative is from a country that is not in the European Economic Area[1] (“EEA”) they will need some form of permission in order to live and work in the UK and so this visa may be appropriate for them.

If so, the representative can apply for this online from outside of the UK up to 3 months before the date of travel to the UK and a decision is usually made within 3 weeks. This factsheet sets out the key eligibility requirements of this visa as well as the documents an applicant will need to provide in order for this to be granted.
